AR 450 Abrasion Resistant Steel Sheet & Plate
AR 450 steel is an abrasion-resistant steel grade designed to deliver exceptional wear resistance in demanding applications. The name “AR 450” refers to its average Brinell hardness of approximately 450 HBW, with a guaranteed surface hardness range of 420–470 HBW.
Compared with AR 400, AR 450 offers higher surface hardness, resulting in significantly improved resistance to abrasion and wear. This high-carbon alloy steel is engineered to perform reliably under harsh working conditions involving heavy impact, friction, and abrasive materials.
Thanks to its carefully balanced chemical composition and heat-treatment process, AR 450 steel combines:
-
High hardness
-
Excellent strength
-
Good toughness and impact resistance
-
Practical weldability and formability
These properties make AR 450 a preferred material for extending equipment service life and reducing maintenance downtime in heavy-duty industries.
AR 450 Steel Capabilities
| Grade | Thickness | Width | Length |
|---|---|---|---|
| AR 450 | 0.125” – 2” | 48” – 124” | 60” – 960” |
Advantages of AR 450 Steel

Complies with EN 10029 and EN 10051 standards
Industries and Applications of AR 450 Steel
Mining and Quarrying
AR 450 is widely used in crushers, liners, chutes, and conveyor systems where continuous abrasion from ore, stone, and minerals is a major concern.
Construction
In construction equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, and dump truck bodies, AR 450 steel provides long-term wear resistance under rough operating conditions.
Manufacturing
Manufacturing equipment that handles abrasive materials—such as hoppers, conveyors, and sorting systems—often incorporates AR 450 to improve durability and operational efficiency.
Heavy Equipment
AR 450 steel is commonly used in agricultural, forestry, and waste-handling machinery, where components are exposed to constant impact and abrasive environments.
Energy (Oil & Gas)
In the energy sector, AR 450 is used for wear-exposed components in drilling equipment, pipelines, and material-handling systems subject to abrasive substances.
Transportation
For transporting heavy or abrasive materials, AR 450 steel is used in cargo containers, dump bodies, and shipping components to reduce wear and extend service life.
